Kidney Transplant
Transplant work up
Our doctors at North Shore Medical & Kidney Specialists work in close collaboration with the Renal Transplant Unit at Royal North Shore Hospital.
A kidney transplant offers a more active and potentially longer life without the need for dialysis. You need to be suitable for a transplant. The transplant surgery itself and the drugs that prevent transplant rejection can put a strain on your body and cause complications if you are not well enough.
Patients referred for a transplant work up need to undergo various medical investigations to assess their heart health and to ensure they have no chronic infections, cancer or other contraindications.
For more information visit the transplant information on the Kidney Health Australia Website.
After transplantation
Following the transplant surgery the patient is followed up regularly, usually every 3 months with their nephrologist at North Shore Medical & Kidney Specialists.
